Shamim Abbasi, M.Sc. (Clinical Psychology), MBA Clinical Psychologist & Psychodynamic Psychotherapis

About me

I am a dedicated mental health professional with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and a strong foundation in psychotherapy, working with individuals, couples, and groups. My journey began with training in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), which shaped my early clinical approach. Over time, I found my true calling in Relational psychotherapy—a modality that embraces depth, presence, and emotional attunement. As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I don’t offer quick solutions. Instead, I provide a thoughtful, non-judgmental space where words can emerge from emotional chaos. I listen deeply—not only to what is said, but also to what is left unspoken. By staying connected to my own emotional responses, I allow the therapeutic relationship to evolve naturally, making space for healing through mutual exploration. Together, we make sense of your memories, dreams, and inner conflicts, uncovering meaning in even the most painful experiences. Alongside individual work, I offer couples therapy using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), supporting partners in healing old wounds and building secure, empathetic connections. My clinical practice is informed by ongoing training and membership in the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (IARPP), keeping me grounded in current, evidence-based approaches. With a second Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), I bring additional experience from organizational and systemic contexts. I also have experience working with groups in Group Relations Conferences as a consultant-in-training and facilitator, which has deepened my understanding of group dynamics, leadership, and the unconscious processes that shape group life. I believe, as Freud once captured through a child’s wisdom, that “If someone talks, it gets lighter.” Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relational issues, or simply feel that life isn’t unfolding the way you'd hoped, I aim to help you find light through dialogue. I offer both brief support for immediate concerns and longer-term therapy for those seeking deeper understanding of themselves. Ultimately, I enjoy helping people tune into what’s happening on the inside—something that requires a present and engaged “other.” I feel honored to be that other for my clients, and to co-create a space where growth, healing, and clarity can emerge.
